It’s that time of year again – Lent begins. A good opportunity to rethink your own mobility behavior. This year, the environmental officers of the Protestant and Catholic Churches in Austria are inviting people to do without their private cars more often under the motto “G’Scheit fair unterwegs”. Public transport, cycling and walking should be brought into focus.
A central concern is to make it easier to switch to public transport.
In their position paper, they demand, among other things:
Measures for the effective reduction of motorized individual road traffic
which can be demonstrated in absolute figures.
Maintaining, restoring and expanding an efficient, rail-based transportation system
Transport infrastructure as a fully-fledged backbone of regional development.
Transferable climate tickets that can be passed on from person to person.
A rental climate ticket in every federal state so that everyone can try it out.
Affordable regional climate tickets so that no one is excluded.
Two free rental tickets for youth organizations, social initiatives and parishes, as municipalities already have.
As a transport planning office, we support this initiative. The future of transportation is multimodal, and sustainable mobility is a benefit for everyone!
