Investments in vehicle fleets of public transport operators as well as in new construction and maintenance of transport infrastructure have a high share in the cost structure of these companies.
Potentials, in the optimization of energy consumption, minimization of (operating) costs, extension of infrastructure life cycles and comfort enhancements for passengers, still remain largely untapped due to high evaluation and monitoring costs as well as complex interpretability of results.
Vehicle manufacturers usually prevent external access to vehicle data (e.g.: engine-related parameters) and offer their own monitoring systems. However, these are usually only geared to optimizing the vehicles of the individual manufacturer itself and not to the requirements of the transport operators, who usually have a vehicle pool consisting of vehicles from different manufacturers, which in turn have different standards and offerings for data utilization, availability and monitoring.
For this reason, PLANUM developed the LCM – Low<\/strong> Cost<\/strong> Monitoring<\/strong>System in cooperation with its partner IBZ. It is universally applicable, takes operator requirements into account and optimizes the cost\/benefit ratio. <\/p>\n

The project is sponsored by the Foreign Economic Service AWS. Due to various existing contacts of PLANUM’s management, Turkey was chosen as the target country with the city of BURSA as the local partner. The test drives show that the detailed analyses of the operating data (vibrations, lateral and longitudinal accelerations, etc.) identify the driving behavior of the vehicle drivers as well as deficiencies in the track (road, rail) and existing defects and emerging damage to the vehicle. <\/p>\n
